Below are a few of the new features that will give you a first impression of the improvements in the new Tools Release.

User Experience

User experience allows you to optimize the EnterpriseOne user interface and tailor it to your user community and their business processes – without the technical development required for traditional application customization and the associated customization costs.

Form extensibility improvementsfto

With the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne tools release 9.2 Update 5, form extensibility has been extended to include the ability to show again the columns of the business view in a grid that were hidden with the Form Design Aid (FDA). This improvement allows users to use a form extender to show these business view columns and insert them into a grid without having to develop a new custom form in FDA or modify an existing one. Similar to an existing feature in a personalized form, users can now mark a field in a form extension as required and this setting will then apply to all versions of the application. These features significantly reduce the time, effort and cost required to provide a streamlined work environment for end users.

JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Search

JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Search helps users quickly find and respond to JD Edwards transactions and data as part of their daily work. To further enhance user productivity, EnterpriseOne Search has been enhanced with the following features:
  • Accurate search for matches: The system retrieves search results that show an exact match with the keyword entered by the user. For example, if a user wants to search for all customer orders for red bicycles and enters “red bike” as a keyword, the system will only display those orders that contain “red bike” in the description. This capability helps narrow down the search results, thereby improving the user’s productivity.
  • Ability to export the search results: Users can export the search results to a .csv file so that they can analyze the data or import the data into another application outside EnterpriseOne.
  • Ability to specify a query and a personal form for related actions: When a related action is defined to run a JD Edwards application, the developer can now define a specific query and specify a personal form for the application. Simplifying this application interface and entering related data improves the user experience.

Application Level Help

The application-level help option in JD Edwards EnterpriseOne forms has been enhanced so that users can now search for EnterpriseOne and UPK documentation separately. This improvement allows users to more easily find specific information that addresses their questions. In addition, JD Edwards now provides direct access to www.LearnJDE.com via the user drop-down menu in the EnterpriseOne menu bar. This improvement gives users faster access to the latest learning content in all JD Edwards areas.

System Automation

Virtual Batch Queues

JD Edwards batch processes (UBE and reports) are still critical in the customer’s business. With Tools Release 9.2.5, JD Edwards has improved the scalability, flexibility and availability of JD Edwards UBE batches with Virtual Batch Queues (VBQ). This improvement reduces dependency on queues per individual server and gives users the flexibility to run and repeat jobs on a group of congruent batch servers. It also allows users to maximize system resources by having their UBEs dynamically processed by any available server in the batch cluster. The centralized output repository ensures easy access to report output, regardless of when and where the batch was submitted and output was retrieved. Overall, this feature provides high availability for batch processes, accelerates batch job processing and helps users scale to ensure batch job performance.

Development Client Simplification

Although JD has provided Edwards Frameworks to reduce the need for customization, there are still some scenarios where customers need to create and maintain customizations. In JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Tools Release 9.2 Update 5, JD Edwards has greatly reduced the time, effort and resources required to install and maintain the development client by eliminating the need for a local database. Removing the local database reduces the storage requirements (memory and disk space) for a development client, resulting in a more efficient development process. This feature also improves Object Management Workbench (OMW) activities and save/restore operations, eliminating the need for mandatory check-in of objects during package deployment. This improvement results in improved productivity compared to the previous package installation process. The underlying package creation and deployment processes are also streamlined, improving the throughput of the software development lifecycle.

Automated troubleshooting for kernel failure

Tools Release 9.2.5 speeds up the kernel error recovery process by automatically identifying kernel errors, capturing the log files together with the problem call stack and sending an e-mail notification. This automated process identifies the cause of the kernel failure and allows the administrator to instruct the person(s) to be notified (the appropriate team) so that corrective action can be taken immediately. The notification contains all contextual information, which helps minimize the time spent on problem resolution and collaboration with Oracle support.

Web-Enabled Object Management Workbench (OMW)

Tools Release 9.2.5 extends the Web version of the OMW to include the administration of development objects: Developers, testers and administrators can now transfer objects (applications, UBEs, business functions and all other development objects) via a browser-based application within the web user interface of EnterpriseOne. This feature eliminates the need to access the development client for object transfer, streamlines the lifecycle of OMW projects and objects and creates the potential for automated processing of OMW projects and objects.

Web-Based Package Build and Deployment

With Tools Release 9.2.5, the most important technical applications for package assembly, package construction and package distribution can now be executed via the EnterpriseOne web interface. These functions were previously only available through the development client. This enhancement adds further capabilities for automating and scheduling package creation and related orchestration notifications, further extending the digital platform for JD Edwards administrative tasks.

Security

Continuous improvements for a secure technology stack

Automatic TLS configuration between the Server Manager console and the agents

This new functionality simplifies and automates the configuration of Transport Layer Security (TLS)-based communications between the Server Manager console and the Server Manager agents. The use of Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) provides secure communications between applications over a network by enabling message encryption, data integrity and authentication. This functionality eliminates the need to use several different platform-specific manual commands to import certificate files into Java files (keystore and truststore). For secure JMX-based communication, both TLS v1.3 (for Oracle WebLogic Server with Java 1.8 Update 261 or higher) and TLS v1.2 (for Oracle WebLogic Server and IBM WebSphere Application Server) versions of the TLS protocol are supported.

Open Platforms
